Sportswear has become a huge part of the fashion and apparel business; millions of people the world over have a piece of sportswear or sports influenced clothing in their wardrobe. The culture and the lifestyle that surrounds sport continue to be one of the most significant parts of popular culture today and the sports super brand has become a colossal within the fashion sector.

But, how has sports influenced fashion and how has fashion influenced sports. Join MFN for an informal discussion as we gather together a panel of industry experts to discuss how the functionality of sportswear in the 70’s has developed through the eras and ended up as the nostalgic sports style of the 21st century.

The Panel:

Phil Thornton - Author - The Casuals
Phil is the author of 'Casuals; football, fighting and fashion' and has co-edited internet zine Swine (www.swinemagazine.wordpress.com ) for the past 5 years.

Rob Warner - Design Director Global Apparel - Umbro

Rob joined Umbro in August 2009 and leads apparel design across performance, lifestyle and fashion.

Robs former employers include Puma and ONeill. He has directed product concepts for the 2006 World Cup, 2008 Olympic Games and Volvo Ocean Race as well as collaborations with the likes of Aitor Throup, Neil Barrett and Peter Saville.

Jay Montessori - Co Owner - 80's Casual.
