Socks and Sandals
This is the trend that splits the nation. I’m sure like myself you have argued the point and refused to leave the house when you’re on holiday and your dad wears socks with sandals. So, what’s with this ‘trend’?
I have to admit being in two minds about it. I hate feet and would much prefer if socks stayed on at all times and feet remained covered. It also means that you don’t need to paint your nails. On the other hand – it’s socks and sandals! Socks- traditionally used to keep your feet warm and help prevent blisters, with sandals – THE summer shoe.
It’s like the worlds gone backwards. Instead of wearing underwear under clothes we now wear it over and instead of moving forward with technology we are promoting bring trade home. Is this good? I think so. It’s important for people to learn about their culture and although socks and sandals don’t really do this they support an ideal.
A bit like a Cheryl Cole song this trend grows on you. The positives I see are;
1) Feet remain covered (this is the most important clearly as I don’t know one person who openly appreciates the appearance of feet)
2) Your feet don’t get cold. Although it’s almost summer, we are British. It’s not the warmest climate!
3) It’s cute and sexy! Suspenders and open toed sandals – fit! Little ankle socks like you used to wear in primary school – cute!
4) No need to paint your nails – saves time!
Although I am openly supporting the socks and sandals movement there are limits. It is important not to look like a 90’s fashion disaster like my dad when he wears them.
This is a trend once voted the biggest fashion no no and will still be worn by those unaware it has become a trend. Make sure you look like the conscious type and not someone who got ready in a cupboard.
