Harvey Nichols A/W '10 Catwalk Show
Last Wednesday night saw the glitterati of the Manchester fashion scene gather within Manchester Cathedral, but late night Mass was not on the agenda. Harvey Nichols hosted their Autumn/Winter catwalk show and presented the crème de la crème of their collections available in store. As one would expect of a Harvey Nichols event, the evening was a sophisticated and well organised affair with Champagne aplenty and a spattering of Celebrity guests.
The event was introduced by Susan Caplan, of Susan Caplan Vintage Collection jewellery, who spoke of her jewellery range and the magnificent surroundings of the Gothic style Manchester Cathedral. Once Caplan has teetered off stage DJ Xander hit the play button and a Calvin Klein gown kick started the show in the first of eleven themed catwalk sets. The themed sets were choreographed to mimic the key trends of the current season including Asymmetry and English Glamour for the ladies and Scandinavian jumpers mixed with some Rock ‘n Roll edge for the gentlemen.
MFN’s favourite trends for the evening were, firstly, the New Simplicity theme which saw designers such as the aforementioned Calvin Klein, Joseph and Gucci perform outstandingly to compliment figure and age in timeless nods to 1960s simplicity and palettes. Susan Caplan’s vintage Couture jewellery was showcased during this set particularly well with bold statement pieces juxtaposing simplistic mini dresses.
One of the key trends for gents this season, which has already taken a firm hold of the high street, is that of layering and chunky Scandinavian knits which was showcased by Harvey Nichols to the tune of Moncler, D&G and Paul Smith. Layering has taken a whole new meaning this season and Harvey Nichols reflected this by having their models wrapped up tightly in wool hats, gloves and mittens, scarves, jumpers under gilets and thickly lined shin-high boots. Hues were slightly more experimental than expected with metallic body warmers in teals and indigos teamed with earthy grey jumpers and wool winter accessories.
Equestrian themed collections were also showcased for the menswear offering by Harvey Nichols with Gucci jodhpurs, D&G jocky caps and riding boots aplenty. This theme showcased clothing for the more refine gentleman and presented a look altogether more premium that would be difficult to replicate in any other store than Harvey Nichols.
The final theme of the evening was simply entitled Glamour which saw some of the most expensive and luxurious ladieswear collections that Harvey Nichols has to offer its customers. Donna Karan, Lanvin and Pucci were all included and contributed greatly to what can only be described as the grand finale. The last dress was a peacock blue halter dress by Pucci worn with Jimmy Choos and a Susan Caplan bracelet which sashayed down the catwalk and stole the gaze of every attendee.
Once the show had ended guests were invited back to the store for more drinks and the opportunity to shop the show with a 15% discount.
