Last Thursday night saw the brainchild of Anna Wintour, Editor-In-chief of American Vogue, take over some of the world’s most fashionable destinations. From New York to London, Miami to Tokyo events and parties were hosted in honour of Vogue’s Fashion's Night Out. Manchester couldn’t resist getting in on the action.

Fashion’s Night Out was started just one year ago in New York City, to help encourage shoppers to buy during the global recession. This year the event has taken place in The United States, The United Kingdom, France, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Australia, Italy, Portugal, Germany, India, Japan, Taiwan China and Korea. Each country’s event will be organised by that country’s edition of Vogue magazine.

For the Manchester celebrations, MFN gladly accepted the VIP invitation to rub shoulders with Henry Holland and friends in Selfridges' Exchange Square Moet bar to celebrate the launch of his A/W collection in store.

Henry and his A/W collection

We were greeted with mini bottles of champagne and cocktails, nothing less for Lancashire born lovely Henry Holland, while we stood way back admiring braver soles' dance moves on the custom made House of Holland dance floor. Celebrity DJ's were the order of the night with even Henry jumping on for a go, his Mother looking a little less than impressed...

The collection was available to purchase on the evening so a sneaky peek was in order, the A/W collection sees a return for HOH's slogan tees, instead this time sporting acronyms rather than witty rhymes. There is also an abundance of prints, paisley outlines and curls adorn the majority of the fabric.

The hoisery seemed very popular amongst the crowd, the chain embellished socks in particular. His tights, as always, will be seen on any fashionista worth her salt.

We were also treated to mini cupcakes courtesy of Jellytots and Dollymixtures as we perused the collection. Selfridges was not the only store to get in on the Fashion's Night Out action though...

In partnership with British Vogue, Harvey Nichols hosted Fashion's Night Out in its various locations around the UK and Harvey Nichols Manchester Exchange Square invited MFN to be part of their celebrations.

The first floor of the premium city centre department store was taken over for the party; British Vogue covers adorned the walls, Bucks-fizz was served to guests and tunes were played across the floor by a DJ whilst shoppers were encouraged to browse the collections and pamper themselves. Despite the original intention of the evening revolving around commerce and sales, the team at Harvey Nichols Manchester Exchange Square managed to make guests feel relaxed and entertained.

As well as the international designer collections one would expect of Harvey Nichols; representatives from some of the world’s most prestigious beauty brands were on hand to assist attendees in finding their ultimate look. Yves Saint Laurent provided the scents, Andrew Barn at Barnit hair salon in Manchester was on hand to assist with hair dos and Make up was provided by Chanel and Shu Uemura, which is available exclusively in Manchester within Harvey Nichols.

Catwalk shows were presented at intervals throughout the night with varying themes including the infamous Vogue features theme ‘More Dash then Cash’. Attendees were also offered the chance to purchase the Vogue charity Tee and Canvas shopper at the event, with proceeds going to Kids Company. Students from the fashion school at The University of Salford aided guests in customising their goods with sequins, ribbons and buttons galore.

After the fashionable frenzy was over on the first floor, ticket holders were treated to a three course meal in the Restaurant on the second floor and a screening of the ultimate fashion film, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. Fashion Night Out 2010 has already been dubbed a huge success and many premium and independent retailers throughout Manchester are considering joining the party next year.
