Vintage Threads
The Triangle Manchester saw yet another successful Vintage Threads event on Saturday July 3rd. This months stalls were popped in the empty Adidas unit, which proved to be a great location for people selling their wares.
Snooky Ookums Stall
Snooky Ookums had a beautiful selection of 1970’s and 80’s second hand clobber, mostly specialising in snazzy evening and party wear. The business was founded two years ago by Gemma and was initially inspired by her love of vintage whilst living in London. Based in Liverpool, Snooky Ookums stocks brilliantly glamorous gladrags with amazingly affordable prices starting at £10. Bargain!
Mrs Buds Buttons & Bows was present at Vintage threads…a lovely stall for a vintage label lovers dream! Showcasing a great range of 1980’s stock from St Michael pieces to vibrant patterned playsuits and original House of Fraser dresses.
Rebecca the ultra friendly stall holder, was explaining to me a few sellers are trying to put into effect a vintage fashion show for a future Vintage Threads…ooh watch this space!
History's Attic's Stall
Whilst walking around, I came across History’s Attic which was a lovely stall owned by Claire a former HR worker. Claire’s stall was laden with cute handmade button brooches, bags, belts as well as an ace selection of vintage sunglasses. Having just completed a short course in sewing, Claire currently experiments customising vintage and re-working clothing with trimmings, buttons and other fabric ephemera. With everything from History’s attic carefully and lovingly handpicked, you can be sure to trust Claire’s great eye for style.
Passion Jewellery's Stall
Passion Jewellery is your definitive answer to unique bespoke jewellery. Showcasing a fantastic selection of handmade chunky bracelets, charm laden necklaces and sophisticated drop earrings, this thriving business caters for every stylish individual.
Whilst admiring the eclectic array of creations, I got talking to Claire the brains behind the creativity; she informed me that interestingly the business started way back 8 years ago just as a hobby to make some extra cash. Having worked previously as a florist and then through the unfortunate credit crunch, Claire was made redundant, but happily insists that it was the best thing that ever happened to her; as she managed to turn her successful and much enjoyable hobby into her full-time career. Based in Liverpool, Claire sells her Jewellery at parties, markets, corporate events, via her website and also through Facebook. With not only a fantastic bespoke service offered, you also have the chance to handpick your own materials, colours and charms for Claire to work with and have it made while you wait. Sounds good to me! A top choice for feminine chunky personalised jewellery!
Clare Potts' Nail Stall
At Vintage Threads the very lovely Clare Potts had a great rail of vintage, which she insisted were left over bits from her wardrobe, as well as some really cute hand-wrapped vintage teacups that Clare had kindly filled with temptingly yummy sweets!
Throughout the day Clare was on hand painting what can only be described as dazzlingly funky nails! Clare having stopped biting her nails a few weeks back has been decidedly dressing them up ever since! Inspired by Wah Nails, Clare had so many cool colours and designs to choose from; there were nude miu miu print with gemstones, multiple Mickey Mouse ears, strawberries and quirky leopard print which I aptly chose. A snippet at just £5 Clare ultimately transformed dull talons into flamboyant little works of art…that girl sure is handy with a nail brush! Check out Clare’s blog, Tweet, with a nifty step-by-step guide of how to do the leopard just right.
Tramp Gems Stall
Tramp Gems was an idyllic sparkly haven of costume vintage jewels, brooches, chains and watch necklaces.
Glamour Bunny's Stall
Glamour Bunny founded by Gerry Roxby, is a brand that specialises in the reworking and reproduction of vintage clothing. All the way from Newcastle, Gerry brought a fab selection of vintage dresses mostly from the 1950’s and 80’s, which happened to be a first at the fair, as she usually showcases her own pin-up style dresses designed by herself. I was very impressed with the stock on the day as there were so many beautiful original pieces.
Miss Lemon Vintage's Stall
With one of the most diverse stalls at this Vintage Threads, Miss Lemon Vintage had a fantastic collective of vintage men’s, women’s clothing and accessories as well as a table stacked to the nines with ace bric-a-brac. The stall run by Paul and his wife Serena Harper Deveraux, who interestingly teaches graphic design and fine art at Stockport College, had an eclectic rail of clothing dating from all different eras. Paul explained to me that his family have always had love for collecting particularly old retro vintage clothing, rare items of style and things back from when he was growing up. The stalls simply came about wanting to show their student’s fashion, design and style from decades ago particularly the early 1970’s to appreciate and inspire their work. There were certainly some great bargains to be had and Miss Lemon Vintage had a flawless collection of men’s brogues, ties and braces that rarely can be seen at Vintage Threads.
