A Stella Performance
Many fashion critics have often viewed designer Stella McCartney as a woman born with a silver spoon in her mouth. However, being the daughter of a musical icon must have been quite difficult at times.
I won’t deny that this is a woman who has been given opportunities that many young designers would have killed for. Honestly how many of us wouldn’t ask our Daddy to put in a good word with his friends at Saville Road to get a bit of work experience? I know I would! Yet Stella has often been unfairly judged for her family connections. She has repeatedly had to silence her critics and what’s more- she has successfully shoved her silver spoon in their big mouths!
Yet what shocks me is how many people seem to have overlooked how much of a role model Stella McCartney is for the modern woman. Here we have not only a strong designer who creates stunning outfits for the feminine figure but also a celebrity who has made a career for herself based on her own talents. What’s more, she has the qualifications to prove it! Now can we say that for either of the Geldof girls or Paris Hilton?
Stella is not only a successful entrepreneur but a celebrity with real morals and beliefs. In a world where the press rules and we are constantly berated daily on which celeb has had an affair or who is cheating on who it is great that we have someone we can look too. From vegetarianism to raising awareness for cancer charities, Stella is a woman who stands up for what she believes in. Just like her mother Linda before her, she has strong values and beliefs and isn’t afraid to discuss them.
Young girls should be looking towards women just like Mrs McCartney for a role model, instead of looking at the fake, page three models that seem to surround us.
Stella is an inspiration and the same can also be said about her latest autumn / winter collection that hit the French capital for Paris Fashion Week.
The latest collection, just like her views, was extremely modern. Combining black and beige stripped jumpers against beautifully tailored silky black trousers and long tailored steel grey jackets. The collection was masculine in its tailoring but feminine in essence. Luxurious short black chiffon dresses complimented the collection and dashes of colour were incorporated throughout from burnt oranges to rich purples and a dash of fuchsia pink.
The collection had a very relaxed feel to it, it wasn’t as adventurous or as dramatic as other designers’ collections but then that has never been McCartney’s style. Instead it was a collection that’s very wearable and functional. Which is exactly what the modern woman needs in her daily outfits- Fashionable and functional.
It looks as though Stella McCartney has won her battle once again and triumphantly silenced all her hungry critics.
