Reebok throw's in the towel
By Chris Brooks
With the current financial situation we are all facing it is clear that some belt tightening will have to be made. We sadly report that one of the regions oldest sportswear brands, Reebok, will be closing its Bolton offices with the loss of 160 jobs. Adidas the parent company of Reebok has announced the closure bringing to an end the 116 year association with Bolton. Adidas have stated that many staff will be offered relocations to the head office in Stockport or overseas but there were inevitable redundancies.
This comes as a blow to the region as the Bolton offices hold many creative's working for the design of Reebok products, this will leave a massive hole in the regions design infrastructure. Reebok were unable to comment personally but released a press statement yesterday; "We will now enter a period of consultation with employees to discuss our proposal, which would see the closure of Reebok's Bolton office by the end of 2009. Depending on the structure ultimately determined, we hope to assist as many employees as possible in obtaining new positions within the Adidas Group." Adidas have also stated that the Reebok sponsorship of Bolton Wanderer's Football Club will be unaffected by this recent downsizing
