Fast and furious is my motto when it comes to surviving the January sales. Not too furious mind as two fashionista’s at Selfridges on Boxing Day experienced IT bag rage bursting into a catfight over designer handbags. Who can blame them as this years January sales have defied the down turn, with 2,500 people sashaying through the Trafford Centre every 10 minutes on Boxing Day.

Hundreds of stores across the country for the first time traded on the 26th December opening doors as early as 5.00am. Prices were slashed by up to 92%. Here’s my guide to surviving the sales.

1) Visualise a mental wish list of the items you lusted after pre sales and see if they have been reduced.

2) Mooch through your existing wardrobe to see what items your lacking that will work with your lifestyle calculating the price x wearability.

3) The best way a Recessionista can ride through the economic storm is upgrade purchasing reduced designer pieces. Opt for a mixture of classic styles and trend must have’s for 2009, like jump suits, snake skin accessories, 70’s inspired disco chic,  ripped 80’s jeans and crop tops.

4) Always check at point of sale what the returns policy is as some stores enforce a no returns rule.

5) Try to shop alone as you’ll spend less money as your less self conscious about being cheap.  Do you really you love anyone enough to give the last pair of 75% discounted Jimmy Choos?
