The Fashion Flood Gates Open

By Bianca Abrahams

Those taking front row seats at the fashion show preview looked stylish enough to take part in the catwalk themselves.  This 6pm catwalk event was running fashionably late however was worth the wait.  The key trends for this season were marked out as Folk Boho, Tartan, Punk, Gothic, Masculine, and Experimental. The clothing was a mixture of high end brands and high street favourites. Coronation Street’s Vicky Binns’ debut on the catwalk in a black feathered tiny cinched dress was followed by a quick talk through the hair and makeup brief.  Messy up do’s that are obtainable without hours of styling combined with a fresh flawless face and soft smoky eyes.  The event was rounded off with the winner of Manchester’s Style hero being awarded to hairstylist Andrew Barn from Barn It at Harvey Nichols.

The ethical hemp tote goodie bags were crammed full with everything a fashionista needs. A mirror, a huge bar of chocolate, Vitamin water, a mini bottle of wine, Heat magazine (for the latest gossip), plus a card that offers up many other shop and restaurant discounts in and around the city this month.

The second floor was converted into a shopper’s paradise. Flannels had their discounted wares on offer, Miu miu, Matthew Williamson and Prada to name drop a few!  Manchester’s most awarded vintage  store Rags to Bitches had a selection of delights on display, the capes on show can be made in any fabric and are so covetable this winter.  Swimwear and embellished kaftans by Melissa Odabash had heavily slashed prices. A must have to take you from the pool to the beach bar, these will mark you out as the chic-est on the beach. All of the jewellery by Earring Boutique was 20% off. Here the packaging was just as beautiful as these oversized gems.  The 2 for £9 offer at Bourjois was a bargain and their moisturizing lipstick and coloured eyeliners were quickly being snapped up. The more practical amongst us were stocking up on the roll up ballet-flats. These are the perfect solution after a long night of wearing those painful skyscraper heels. At only £6 a pop they are tiny enough to slip into the smallest of clutches and come in a bag big enough to stash your heels away in. These tiny ballets make the evening taxi queue wait a lot less painful!

There was no need to rush off as the VIP bar offered up the sweetest of cupcakes and endless glasses of champagne. This turned out to be the perfect setting for socializing, and discussing any purchases from the evening.
