Liverpool Fashion Week 2008
European Capital of Culture shows us a bit of their famous wag style in its very first Liverpool Fashion Week
The Chances are Anna Wintour may not be taking a detour to this event any time soon. However last week was Liverpool’s time to shine. From March 10th -16th Liverpool played host, to a series of themed fashion events at some of the city’s most glamorous hotspots.
Friday night was the turn of Circus de Celebrate at the Newz bar Liverpool.
Upon arrival revellers were treated to a display of 8 ft clowns on stilts, dressed in extravagant sequinned suits. Whilst inside, The Newzs Bars impressive décor of plush red carpets and soft lighting, and even more impressive number of glamorous Liverpool girls saw it as the perfect place to get a taste Liverpool fashion.
An orange looking Alex Curran, wife of Liverpool F.C Player Steven Gerrard, got guests excited as she took her seat on the front row accompanied by a group of wag wannabes. The Host’s, a bitchy Julian Bennett, UK’s queer eye for the straight guy and Bianca Gascoigne, Celebrity Love Island, introduced the first act. A rocky horror looking dance troupe, who worked the crowd in to such an excited frenzy., that one party goer fainted after the first collection by Liverpool designer Kate Fearnley.
Once the paramedics gave the all clear the show got back underway, A rather scowley looking Charlie from big brother took her turn at modelling. Luckily the professional models, a few girls from wags boutique and the winner of the Fake Bake campaign on Colleen’s Real Women, Nicole Francis, showed us exactly how it’s done... by having a good time and showing that the Liverpool lasses are great for a laugh!
Other collections from Drome, Boudoir Boutique, Desires and the finale collection by Cooper Wollasey oozed glamour and individuality. However there were a few pieces such as an updated version of the wags favourite velour tracksuit, turned Abba jumpsuit that perhaps won’t be making the pages of Grazia any time soon!
